How does it work

The user registers with anonline service and generates a new key pair on the device used - consisting of a private key and a public FIDO2 key. While the private key is stored on the device and is known only on the client side, the public key is registered in the key database of the web service.

Subsequent authenticat ions can now be performed exclusively by proving the private key, which must always be unlocked by user action. There are various op tions, such as en ter ing a PIN, pressing a button, voice input or inserting a separate two-factor hardware (FIDO2 token). Some operating systems, such as Windows lO and Android, can now also act as securit y toke ns, themselves.
